Special Education Law

It is the right of every child to have access to a fair and free education that addresses and accommodates disabilities.

Reisman Carolla Gran & Zuba attorneys are recognized leaders in special education law.

We approach our practice with commitment, passion and empathy with experience as family members, teachers, and advocates for students with disabilities.

The federal law gives every child with a disability the right to a free and appropriate education. School districts have a duty to provide children with disabilities a full range of educational tools and environments to support and educate the child in the least restrictive environment. Whether it’s related services and therapies, specialized reading instruction, a classroom equipped with sensory resources, an independent school that specializes in the education of children who learn differently, or other accommodations — it is your child’s right to have educational services open and available to her so that she can learn.

Our experienced special education attorneys provide consultation and guidance regarding the legal rights of children and families in the process of addressing student’s needs in school from start to finish, from identification, through evaluation, to development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 accommodation plans. We explain the legal options in layperson’s terms when parents cannot come to an agreement with a school district, and if we are unable to resolve your dispute through negotiation, we will vigorously pursue claims on your behalf through the due process system.

If your child is transitioning to college or a post-secondary program, she too has rights to reasonable accommodations and accessibility. Let us help so you can make sure she has what she needs.

We have combined experience of over 100 years litigating on behalf of students and their families including these common special education issues:

  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Inclusion
  • 504 Accommodation Plans
  • Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Complaints (HIB)
  • Out-of-District Placements
  • Tuition Reimbursement for Unilateral Parental Placements
  • Determining Graduation Readiness
  • Services for Transition to Post-Secondary Living
